What is Eczema?
Commonly referred to as "atopic dermatitis" is the most common, most severe and chronic (long-lasting) kind of eczema. Eczema is a general term for any type of dermatitis of "inflammation of the skin". All types of eczema cause itching and redness, and some will blister, weep or peel. Symptoms come and go. There is no cure, so a person with chronic atopic dermatitis may live with hopes for improved ways to manage the disease. Life with eczema can also be filled with frustration and disappointment as one therapy after another is tried and fails to make a significant improvement. For more detailed information and assistance, visit the National Eczema Association website at www.eczema-assn.org. |

What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease that generally appears as patches of raised red skin covered by a flaky white build-up. Although the exact cause is unknown, psoriasis is believed to be related to faulty signals sent by the body's immune system. These signals accelerate the growth cycle of skin cells, which pile up on the surface when the body can't shed them fast enough. No one can "catch" psoriasis from another person. Psoriasis is NOT contagious. The most common areas of psoriasis are the knees, scalp, trunk and nails but can appear on any skin surface. For more detailed information and assistance, visit the National Psoriasis Foundation website at www.psoriasis.org. |

What is Acne?
Acne is a disease of sebaceous hair follicles. Each follicle contains a tiny hair and multi-lobed sebaceous glands. Typically, sebum travels up the hair follicle and out to the skin's surface. However, in acne, sebum is trapped within the follicle causing lesions known as blackheads. Acne usually develops on those areas of the skin where sebaceous are most numerous: the face, neck, chest, scalp, arms and shoulders. |
